McCall’s 7802

A group of friends and I have an annual Girl’s Trip. This year’s trip; however, was canceled do to you know what 😔. Well, let’s not dread on that. This is why we create great memories and take amazing photos.

The friend who plans the trips is huge on photography and photo shoots. The theme for one of the many photo ops was citrus. That’s right citrus! I decided to go with the color yellow.

Wait! Hold up. I didn’t have anything yellow in my closet. It’s just not a color I gravitate towards. Then the light bulb went off. Make your own something yellow ☺.

I chose McCall’s 7802. Due to the low cut neckline, I knew I needed to make a muslin first. I wasn’t taking any chances on my expensive fabric. Thankfully I did.

Although not finished in this photo. I did finish the muslin and I was grateful I did. The neckline was way too low for my liking. I knew exactly what changes needed to be made.

I graded the bodice. 14 to 16 and the skirt was cut at an 18. These hips don’t lie. This is why I love separates. They are very easy to size. I also shortened the length.

Below is the finished project.

  1. Pattern Cut Size: 14, 16 and 18

  2. View: C

  3. Fabric Exterior:  Oscar de la Renta Woven Silk from Mood Fabric

  4. Fabric Lining:  Italian Buttercup Fluid Viscose Woven from Mood Fabrics

  5. Modifications:  Graded sizing, shortened length and lined bodice only.

  6. Likes: Everything!

  7. Dislikes: Not really a dislike, but some may have to work through that revealing neckline.

Conclusion: This is a great pattern. I like simple and bold. This design not only allows for easy sizing adjustments, but the room for alot of creativity. I consider this dress to be a blank slate.

Enjoy the bliss of Croatia, Italy

You better make you one.
