Simplicity 9011

I've never been a huge fan of knit garments 😲. I know, I know. Shocking because so many people love them for the no need to iron reason alone. I have never been a fan because the quality usually sucks. Too thin, pills and grabs in all the wrong places.

After learning to sew, I decided to give knits a try. I still wasn't a huge fan. Why? For the same reasons mentioned above and now because I've learned that they can be a pain to sew. Good grief. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Now on to the good stuff. What I quickly learned like with most things. It wasn't that I didn't like knits. I just hadn't been able to find quality knits. That's right. Quality. All things are not created equal. I prefer soft, stable knits that don't necessarily need lining if they tend to hug the body.

I purchased this super soft, stable, brush poly knit from my LQS (local quilt shop). When I saw it, I had to have it. It was a color I have been looking for, for at least 2 years.

I had the perfect pattern. Simplicity 9011

I chose View D. It was the sleeves for me.

I'll be honest. I was under a bit of a time crunch to get this dress done and failed to follow my normal grading procedure when cutting out the pattern so there were some adjustments needed while sewing.

Use caution with pins and knits. I like wonder clips.

Marking Right Side

Tapering the sleeve band
  1. Pattern Cut Size: 18

  2. View: D

  3. Fabric Exterior:  Double Brushed Poly Knit

  4. Modifications:  Graded sizing during construction from waist to hip (16 to 18), tapered sleeve band for a tighter fit.

  5. Likes: Simple Construction, Nice Fit and those Sleeves ☺

  6. Dislikes: None

Conclusion: This is a great pattern. Very beginner friendly if you are comfortable with knit fabric. Again, I like simple and bold. This design is very simple, yet the sleeves give you that extra umph.

This design has room for lots of creativity. Color blocking and/or embroidery would definitely kick this dress up another notch.

You better make you one!

Start out with stable knits (sew more like woven, easier to handle for beginners) until you become more comfortable with jersey knits.

The dress looks gorgeous. I also struggle with knits and have given up. I will try to search for better quality.
